DEFENSIVE LINEMEN

DEFENSIVE ENDS

1 Julius Peppers North Carolina
Peppers is the whole package. He can stop the run, rush the passer and is quick. Look for him to be take by the Panthers with the second pick in the draft. He will bring an pass rushing threat to a terrible defensive line.
9 sacks
2 Charles Grant Georgia
Grant is moving up draft boards fast and could be the second defensive end taken in the draft. He is very quick, but needs to work on his technique a little.
6 sacks
3 Kalimba Edwards South Carolina
Edwards could move ahead of Brown as the second best end in the draft depending on pre-draft workouts.
2 sacks
4 Dwight Freeney Syracuse
Freeney impressed everyone with a breakout season last year. He will be a serious pass rushing threat in the NFL very soon.
18 sacks

8 Kenyon Coleman UCLA
Coleman has decent speed and good athletic ability to beat a tackle around the outside.
9 sacks
9 Will Overstreet Tennessee
He is a little small (255 lbs), but he has a nose for the ball. He is a playmaker who should be able to make one big play a game in the NFL.
5 sacks
10 Greg White Minnesota
Don't expect him to do much against the run, but White is a solid pass rusher.
5 sacks
11 Carlos Hall Arkansas
He moved over from linebacker and will need to add size (255 lbs) to be a steady force at defensive end.
2 sacks
12 Gregory Scott Hampton
Scott didn't face much competition, but is a decent pass rusher.
2 sacks
13 Ryan Denney Brigham Young
Denney is fast, but at 25 is a little old to be a high draft choice. He doesn't have much room to improve.

Sims has good range and quick feet.
5 sacks
3 Wendell Bryant Wisconsin
Bryant has good technique and is quick off the ball.

4 sacks
5 Anthony Weaver Notre Dame
Weaver is quick, but is not always great at shedding blockers.
7 sacks
6 Eddie Freeman Alabama - Birmingham
Freeman is very quick off the ball, but can be knocked around a little too easily.
3 sacks
7 Larry Triplett Washington
He can stop the run, but isn't too effective against the pass.
2 sacks
8 Dorsett Davis Mississippi State
Davis is great against the run, but is very inconsistent.

Defensive Lineman Notes

There are a lot of teams that need defensive lineman and there are a lot of good defensive lineman in the draft this year. Juluis Peppers, Charles Grant, Kalimba Edwards, and Dwight Freeney are all potential first round selections. Peppers should be the first defensive end selected, and he will probably go to Carolina with the second pick in the draft. Kenyon Coleman, Will Overstreet, and Dennis Johnson are potential second round selections at defensive end. At defensive tackle, there are five potential first round selections; John Henderson, Albert Haynesworth, Ryan Sims, Wendell Bryant, and Anthony Weaver. If your favorite team needs a defensive lineman this draft will give them a potential to fill that hole.
